Pope Francis has appointed Chipata Auxiliary Bishop Benjamin Phiri as the new Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ndola.

Bishop Phiri, who has been serving as the Auxiliary Bishop of Chipata, since 2011 was appointed to his new position yesterday.

Bishop Benjamin Phiri takes over from a very good man of God, Archbishop Dr. Alick Banda who is now the Archdiocese of Lusaka.

He also served as Rector of St. Dominic’s Major Seminary in Lusaka, since 2004 before his appointment as Auxiliary Bishop of Chipata on 18 January 2011 with the titular see of Nachingwea.

He was ordained to the priesthood on 14 September 1986 for the diocese of Chipata.
